I’m Sylvia, welcome to Glenmore Bakery I was born and have lived between the Quantocks and the edge of the coast all my life. Since I was a young girl I’ve enjoyed cooking and baking and remember spending many hours in the kitchen with mum and my older sister Angie, whilst brother Stephen and dad was out on the farm. When leaving school in 1985 catering collage was the obvious choice for me and I progressed into good jobs working my way up the ladder into management roles, so when my children were born they soon became very used to a working life. Glenmore Café and Bakery was formed in 1997 and 6 weeks in I was asked to work one week to cover the head baker’s holiday; I loved it so much I never left. It was no surprise to anyone when in 2003 my husband Richard (better known as Dick), and I, bought it. Very soon it became a buzzing family business and in 2007 we opened our first shop in the centre of Minehead. In 2009 we had outgrown our premises and so with the Bakery in mind we sold the Café and moved into a much bigger premise in Williton. Since then we have not only grown our wholesale distribution service but opened two more shops in Minehead and Wiliton. We continue to pride ourselves on the homemade approach to baking, with no added extra additives or preservatives.
Where the name 'Jen's Pantry' originated You may already know our very talented head chef and owner Gavin. Gavin has been in the catering industry since leaving school, gaining much experience and qualifications along the way. He has even catered for some of the Royal Family and the very famous chef Raymond Blanc. After many years of working for others, he decided to bring his dream to life and launch his own event catering business. One person had always been the driving force behind the scenes, encouraging him to go for his dream and this was his mum. Gavin decided to name his new business in memory of his mum 'Jenny' hence the name Jen’s Pantry. Jen's Pantry is fully insured and holds a 5 star food hygiene rating from Somerset West & Taunton Council, as well as us holding a personal public licence.

The home of Somerset Farmhouse nestles between the beautiful Exmoor & the Quantocks hills and we have been serving the area for over 150 years. Two local families, the Warrens and the Paytons have managed the business since 1989. In 2018 the Warrens retired from the business and John Payton has now been joined by his daughter Sally who can be found behind the counter in the shop most days along with her brother Rob. John Payton has 45 years’ experience supplying quality meat, poultry and game to the best hotels and restaurants in the South West. It is our aim to source livestock from traditional farms in and around the Exmoor National Park, where animal welfare and care for the land takes president over short term mass produced economic “factory production line” farming that has changed the industry over the last 25 years. With Sally joining the business we have expanded our range of products to include local free range eggs, west country cheeses and chutneys and fresh fish from the Devon and Cornwall coasts. With a move towards zero waste products we also supply fresh milk from Gundenham dairy in Wellington which you can collect in your own bottle and a range of dry ingredients including rice, pasta and dried fruit and nuts dispensed in the quantity you require. With our unique knowledge of the best local farmers and producers, we decided to establish Somerset Farmhouse Online – so we could offer these wonderful products to a wider audience of people who know great food when they taste it. We are happy to take order over the telephone as well, and will deliver the next day in the local area. We have developed a range of hampers featuring many treats and an option to put together a hamper of your choice, for yourself or as a gift. Take a moment to browse our online shop, or call in to see the full range we stock.

The White House, originally a farm house, was built in two parts. The back of the house was built approximately 300 years ago and the Georgian frontage was added around 100 years later. The wall in the front was originally full height with two gated arches and the semi-circular front lawn was for turning carriages. The outside rooms were formally the stables and a dairy and if you venture to the back of the courtyard you can see the original barn. To help with the war effort the White House was used as a hostel for ‘Land Girls’. A former kitchen worker from this period remembers it as being a rather risqué time in the buildings history. She still recalls climbing out of her bedroom window to rendezvous with her husband to be. The house was extensively refurbished in the 1950’s when many of the original features were lost, including the fireplaces, but most of the sash windows and shutters are original and still functional. In 1967 the White House was purchased by jazz musician Dick Smith (bass player with the Chris Barber band) and his wife Kay. They converted it into a hotel and during their 40 year tenure they established an award winning ‘restaurant with rooms’. The building became Grade II listed in 1969.
